Improve the Insert Variable search panel usability

Whenever I have to use the Insert Variable panel I'm always set off by 2 little things that could easily be changed and could improve the overall experience.

First and most important is the ability to search with partial match or even using wildcards.

Unless I'm missing something, when you start typing something in the search it will give you matches but only ones that starts with the searched term. This makes the search difficult to use when you have lots of variables to choose from. I've tried to test wildcards to see if they were supported but it appears that's not the case.

Secondly, I like using the ctrl+home combination to select all text (usually to delete it), and for some reason the search text box doesn't allow that, it seems like the home button is simply disabled in that field and I'm not sure I see a reason for this.

Thank you

    Hi @Guest ,

Thanks for reaching out and providing this feedback!

Unfortunately, when you type into the search bar and a dropdown appears, the focus moves to the list so the Home and End buttons will navigate the variable list instead (go to top or bottom entry). If you click back into the Search bar, you can use CTRL + Home again. Instead, the shortcut that is far more reliable is CTRL + A. I understand it's not what you're most familiar with, but there are a number of focuses and attributes that we need to balance.

We've implemented it such that you can search for "words beginning with" within a variable name. So in my below search, "date" returns any variable as long as one of the containing words starts with "date".
I assume you are looking for a "contains" type search, such that "mind" would be found in "Reminder" and return the first variable in this list?

If you can provide more details in the types of Variable names you're working with and the way you're searching for variables and , so I can understand your scenario more clearly and determine whether we can solve it in a better way.

    Regards,
