Change workflow stage based on a variable value

We are allowed to set the value of the "Change Stage" to a stage that is defined or from the defined stages. I am looking for the capability to be able to change to stage according to a value of a variable.

This is useful as I can then have a common stage to do for example a validation. Instead of having every single stage to have same validation logic, I can now pass the validation to a common validation stage/branch, after performing the validation, i will based on the result to go to a branch that is based on the validation result, or a preset "return to" branch before the process is passed to the validation stage/branch.
